Yoga for Men
Written for The Post magazine:
Have you ever thought of trying yoga but felt self-conscious or intimidated about going to a class full of women? Or have you always thought that yoga is just for women full-stop? In actual fact, when yoga was first developed 5000 years ago, it was ONLY men that practiced it. Its only in the last 100 or even 50 years that it’s become seen as more of a “women’s thing”. This is changing and more men are beginning to realise the benefits of yoga – it is practiced by many famous men such as New Zealand’s All Blacks rubgy team, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Bradley Wiggins and Andy Murray, as well as actors such as Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, Alec Baldwin and Colin Farrell.
You don’t have to be a sports star or a famous actor though – yoga is beneficial for men of all ages, sizes and backgrounds. As well as preventing workout injuries, increasing endurance and improving your sport, it also relieves stress and reduces high blood pressure; improves posture and relieves conditions such as back pain and sciatica; helps build mass and strength using your own body weight; removes toxins; improves concentration and helps you achieve your goals (however big or small).
If you are interested in attending a class for men in your area, please get in touch. I also teach mixed classes and am available for 1-2-1 sessions for both men and women.
